The clubs in the Vidyalaya aim at sharing and shaping the ideas of children and putting them together into action. It ensures interdependence among members, a fair division of labour and a sense of collective responsibility. It intends to achieve an equitable mix of activities among groups.

Literary Club: Children in small groups work with a piece of literature, a book or an essay or an article appearing in a newspaper. They learn to think about the author’s purpose, to develop questions, which can be approached and tackled from multiple perspectives and to value the richness of the thinking of the group. Students showcase their efforts and talents through various literary activities. Literary club ensures a significant impact on the quality of thinking and achievement of the students. Literary Club shows patterns in which, students can appraise themselves, acquire self-knowledge, enjoy the complexity of language, express curiosity about literary works and gain self confidence. The crux is to inculcate the habit of reading in students.

Science Club: It encourages children to do things themselves and see its relevance to the day to day life. It helps the children to observe scientific principles by the doing experiments themselves and make objects with tools and materials available around. They learn develop the capacity to think on their own and arrive at conclusions. Without the rigidity of the teaching and learning process, they enjoy learning through doing. They are able to see things happening before their eyes.

Eco Club: Aims to serve as a platform for environmental knowledge-sharing amongst students. The club motivates the students to keep their surroundings green and clean by undertaking planting saplings and making them to grow by constant rending. The students are also exposed to field activities such as nature trails, quiz, speech and poster competitions on ecology and other connected topics. It aims at educating the children about the reuse of waste materials,—Wealth from waste. It trains the minds of the children to live close to Nature.

Quiz Club : Quiz Club in our Vidyalaya has been functioning successfully for more than a decade. It plays a vital role in kindling interest in students to acquire knowledge and use them. Thrilling interactive quiz events for students of all classes make the students self confident. It makes the children undertake team work, boost their confidence and inbibe a real sense of pride in the students, while representing the Vidyalaya in various competitions.

Duke of Edinburgh: It is an award programme to inspire, guide and support young people in their self-development and recognise their achievements. Every year the club is formed by students, who volunteer themselves to commit some of their free time to undertake extra-curricular activities. Its activities include Sports, Craft Work, performing arts, etc., Besides, the young participants of this programme undertake excursions and expeditions and trekking and hiking. They visit people who yearn for love and affection, help and care and make them happy with their consoling words.

Citizen Consumer Club: There is a Consumer Awareness Club functioning in the Vidyalaya to educate the students their rights as consumers. Students are trained to realize the concept that “Consumer is the King” and spread the message to the common man.

Bharat Scouts and Guides: To instill the lasting spirit of ‘self help’ in students, a unit of ‘Scouts’ and one of ‘Guides’ have been operative in the Vidyalaya under Pre ALT. Smt. V. Chitra as the Leader Trainer. Two units of “Bala Gangadara Tilak” scout troop with 70 cadets and two units of “Thillaiyadi Valliammai” Guides company with another 70 cadets are undergoing training in various activities. During 2011-2012, two camps were conducted. It is a value addition to the activities of the students of the Vidyalaya.

Mathematics Club: This club is designed to promote enthusiasm and interest in Mathematics. Students are exposed to hitherto unexplored, exciting and challenging branches of Mathematics, in a casual and friendly atmosphere. They are allowed to handle the materials themselves. “Do it yourself” is the motto of the club and students learn by doing.

In the words of Dr Sir S. Radhakrishnan, “We must develop the freshness of feeling for Nature and the sensitiveness of soul to human need. We must foster the freedom of mind, the humanity of heart and the integrity of the individual” . Our activities attempt to achieve the said qualities.
